On Keywords…

I conducted a simple experiment about keywords and beating the traffic. For a month, I wrote articles using the keyword phrase, choose your VoIP. Using the search engine Google, I typed in Choose Your VoIP as my search. The first page displayed almost all of the articles I wrote bearing the keyword phrase on my site.

Then, I stopped writing for a month. The next time I used google and searched for Choose Your VoIP, a listing of sites were displayed however, my site was nowhere in sight.

It is important to remember that every second, every minute, an article is being written about the same idea you have in mind all over the world. And these articles are also using the same keywords and keyword phrases you are using as well.

That is where the challenge lies. As a content writer, you are writing for a different ball game. You have an additional goal to take care of aside from being a writer.  And that is search engine optimization.

The Key to the Word SEO

Keywords and keyword phrases are one of the more crucial ingredients in search engine optimization. Keywords are what people have on their minds when they want to search something on the web. These are main points or linking points to the query of the searcher.

I have written at least twenty-five articles containing the same keywords for the last two weeks with the impetus to beat the traffic on the web. As a SEO writer, to exhaust these keywords and keyword phrases means higher ranks.

But what exactly can I do with keywords which are very important in search engine optimization?

First, I can use a keyword or keyword phrases as the title of a page or site. For instance, I can use Virtual Assistants’ Services as a title of my page or site.

I can include the keywords or keyword phrases about two to three times on the site. Surprisingly, some sites have composed introductory articles containing these keywords which may not even be comprehensible to the readers but perfectly detectable by the search engines.

I can make a few back-links for my site using particular keywords or keyword phrases. These may be done by writing articles with the necessary keywords to create back-links.

I can utilize these keywords or keyword phrases through posting comments on others’ blogs to generate links. A simple statement from Virtual Assistants’ Services is needed. It can state: “Nice article. Post some more.” If fortunate enough, it can be moderated and it can create links already.

I can do more with keywords and keyword phrases for search engine optimization. If done properly and consistently, I could easily beat the traffic and get to the number one spot on search engines.

Keywords and keyword phrases may be the key to the word, SEO.  However, what is the key to the word, readers?

What am I doing SEO-writing?

I was your regular teacher on the block who thought of a career shift. I have always wanted to write ever since I can remember. So I left teaching and began hunting for a writing job. However, I never thought that writing is a job which pays. I have always thought of writing as a calling.

I was introduced to content writing in the interactive media. This became my first writing job aside from freelance writing of fiction and poetry which paid $25 per publication.

At a cursory level, I was not really into the whole search engine optimization package. I followed instructions, I did my work and I went home. But as I went deeper into his tutelage, I began to understand the game of SEO. As I read blogs and commented on them, I became familiar with the terms the virtual people employ.

Then, it hit me! Every writer probably dreams of having a bestseller. And in the interactive media, a writer’s bestseller is to break through the search engines and rank high. Are the activities of search engines a-moral? I would like to define the terms to cut out on the ambiguity. I mean devoid of morality when I speak of a-moral. It is like sitting on a chair. The mere act of sitting is not a moral issue. It is therefore a-moral. It becomes a moral issue if one goes on to say that the other is sitting on somebody else’s chair. It will be an endless discussion of whether it is right or wrong depending on the situation.

Are the activities of search engines devoid of morality? In all those algorithms which nobody really knows except perhaps for the search engines themselves, is there a moral issue concerned? If I pose the question, what criterion would pass the search engines to grant web sites high ranking? The relevance of keywords? Their density? How many times keywords were mentioned in the article? The number of characters? Should it have a thousand and more? Do search engines favor certain companies?

With all these questions posed, the search engine optimizers could only do so much. It is beyond guesswork. It is beyond technical work. Search engine optimizers may play the bad game to gain profit from the companies that hire them, but ultimately, they are called for something higher.

A good SEO do not set aside its high standard of morality. It may be a mission to get high ranking for the companies which hire them but it is a vision that in cyberspace, there is still the issue of what is right or wrong.

Search engines manage traffic in the web. Search engine optimization devises a plan to enhance a web site to put it on the higher rank to cater to more searchers in the web. This is the broader picture of what goes on through the influx of information on the web.
